FSK Age Ratings
The FSK badges shown on movie pages on myThirai indicate the German age rating issued by the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft (FSK), the organization responsible for classifying films under German youth protection law. These ratings apply specifically to Germany — they may differ from age ratings used in other countries for the same film.
FSK 0
Approved without age restriction. Suitable for viewers of all ages.
FSK 6
Approved for viewers aged 6 and up.
FSK 12
Approved for viewers aged 12 and up. Children aged 6 and older may watch if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
FSK 16
Approved for viewers aged 16 and up.
FSK 18
No youth release. Restricted to adults aged 18 and up.
What the FSK checks
FSK examiners assess whether a film's content could impair the development of children or young people, considering factors such as violence, fear, and other potentially disturbing content. The rating a film receives determines who may legally watch it in German cinemas and at what age content can be sold or rented in Germany.
Where these ratings apply
FSK ratings are valid for Germany only. If a film is shown in other countries, it may carry a different classification issued by that country's own rating body. The FSK badge on a myThirai movie page always reflects the rating applicable to screenings in Germany.
